Cannabinoids

Cannabinoids are a very big part of the cannabis experience but are not well known to the average user. Many Calgary and Chestermere dispensaries may not even know how to have this discussion. So whether you stop in at our Calgary location, Chestermere location, or any dispensary near you, we can have you informed.

What is a Cannabinoid?

Cannabinoids are compounds found in cannabis. There have been over 100 cannabinoids identified in cannabis, but THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabinol) are the most common. The human body naturally produces some cannabinoids through the endocannabinoid system. They act in a similar way to our neurotransmitters, by sending messages throughout the nervous system. These neurotransmitters affect different brain areas that play a role in memory, thinking, concentration, movement, coordination, sensory and time perception, and pleasure.

What is THC?

THC stands for Tetrahydrocannabinol. It is a psychoactive chemical that is found in cannabis. This is what gives us our euphoric experiences. THC activates neurons that influence pleasure, memory, thinking, coordination, and time perception. THC has benefits such as: relaxation, calm, energetic, thoughtfulness, improving sleep and can have potential medical benefits If you pursue it at a cannabis clinic.

What is CBD?

CBD stands for cannabinol. You may notice that Tetrahydrocannabinol and cannabinol look and sound similar, but they are different chemicals that reactive with your body and brain in different ways. CBD does not stimulate the cannabinoid receptors in the brain like THC does and that is why you don’t get “high” from CBD. CBD has benefits such as: relaxation and calming for the body, great for mid-day usage, as well as various potential medical benefits If you pursue it at a cannabis clinic.

What is Alto CBD?

CBD Alto is an isolate-based CBD tincture with an extremely high concentration. CBD isolate is the purest form of CBD available, since it contains no other cannabinoids. Alto CBD has no detectable THC, making it an excellent CBD product for athletes or anybody who is drug tested.

What is the difference between THC and CBD?

THC and CBD are both cannabinoids that come from the cannabis plant. An easy way to think about it is that THC is what cannabis makes you feel, and the effects of CBD can’t be felt. THC may be more known for giving you an effect, but that doesn’t mean CBD doesn’t either. High doses of CBD can produce a relaxing experience. Like stepping out of a hot tub, your body may feel tingly and relaxed, and your brain may be clear.
